Wright Motorsports' Skeer Dominates
Both Porsche GT3 Cup Races at CTMP

BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, July 17 - Wright Motorsports' Elliott Skeer was the fastest qualifier and led every lap of twin 45-minute, non-stop races in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama series last weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

With seven races complete and nine remaining, the rookie driver from Carlsbad, Calif. leads the series' point standings by seven points, 121 to 114. He has been on the podium in every race except one so far this year, and now has three victories, two second-place finishes and one third.

Driving the #14 sponsored in part by an IMSA scholarship supported by Porsche and Yokohama as well as backing from Pelican Replacement Windows and Town Porsche of Englewood, N.J., Skeer had a 1.286-second margin of victory on Saturday and a 0.886-second margin of victory on Sunday. His main rival waited for a mistake that Skeer never made, as he masterfully saved his Yokohama tires, never let his rivals get by, overtook lapped traffic efficiently, and hit his marks throughout both races. He set the second-fastest lap of Saturday's race and the fastest lap of Sunday's race.

Wright Motorsports now has a 10-point lead in the team standings, 128 to 118.

One of Skeer's teammates on the Batavia, Ohio-based team, Kasey Kuhlman of Cincinnati, finished sixth overall on Saturday, fifth overall on Sunday, and was second in the Masters class in both events. He is third in the overall point standings for the top class, and he has a 38-point lead in the Masters standings, 134 to 96.

Michael Schein of New York City finished 12th in class on Saturday and eighth overall on Sunday in another Wright Motorsports mount. He is seventh in the overall point standings after last weekend's races.

A fourth Wright Motorsports Porsche driven by Santiago Creel of Mexico City, Mexico and sponsored by UNIFIN EZCORP was eighth overall on Saturday and ninth overall on Sunday. He's eighth in the overall point standings.

Although Skeer led every lap on Saturday, he did have one scary moment when a backmarker spun right in front of him as Skeer was about to lap him on lap 24. Kuhlman and Schein had a big battle in that race until Schein's race came to a premature end and Andrew Longe became Kuhlman's biggest adversary. Creel, meanwhile, diced with Lucas Catania for most of the race.

Lapped traffic allowed Skeer's biggest rival to get close a couple of times on Sunday, but Skeer never put a wheel wrong that day either. Kuhlman came out on top of a race-long battle with Longe. Schein and Creel battled each other and also Catania in that race on the demanding, 2.459-mile, 10-turn road course.

The next event is another doubleheader Aug. 7-9 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis. Points for three races will be awarded at VIRginia International Raceway Aug. 21-23, as the Danville, Va., road course will be the site of the series' regular doubleheader plus a make-up race that was postponed by rain at NOLA Motorsports Park in April.

Post-race quotes follow:

Elliott Skeer: "First I have to give a massive thanks to the team. Incredible support from everyone led to the results we had last weekend.

"The races were all about management, both tires and traffic. Angel [Benitez Jr.] put some massive pressure on during the lapping of traffic, but we kept it clean and managed to barely hang on for the wins.

"I can't wait for Road America and to keep the season going!"

Kasey Kuhlman: "I was under pressure from Andrew Longe every lap for 45 minutes straight [on Sunday.]  He forced me into a level of concentration beyond what I normally experience, so it was very satisfying to come out ahead in our battle. This track is so intense. A straight green-flag run two days in a row here is really intense. I'm whooped!  I'm glad to be headed back home with good points and the car all in one piece."

Santiago Creel: "The weekend was not great for me; I had contact in the second practice that affected my confidence for the qualifying session. I started in eighth position, and it is very difficult to overtake at this track."
